Metafields2 by sineLABS is an app that lets you create and manage string and integer Metafields. This tutorial assumes the user is migrating from that app to our app. This example begins with a user that has one Metafield with values across multiple products.
First, create new Custom Fields in our app to move your data from Metafields2 and into Custom Fields. In this example we just have a plain text field called
product.metafields.meta2.handling-instructions, so we will call our new Custom Field Handling Instructions. When finished creating it click Create New Text Field and the new field will be added to your list of Custom Fields.
Next, click Export and you will be brought to a menu where you can export your fields into a CSV file. You might want to keep the ID column because it speeds up importing a bit.
Open the newly downloaded file in a spreadsheet program and you will see your metafields from Metafields2 as well as your Custom Fields. Copy the namespace from the Custom Fields text field and paste it where the namespace for Metafields2 is. Save the document as a CSV.
Import this file back into Custom Fields, then access the Edit Custom Fields screen on any of the products you imported values for. These values will now appear!
Now your fields will show up on your product pages just like you had them in sineLABS' Metafields2 app. Just make sure to delete any fields from Metafields2 printed in your store by cleaning up any print statements in your Shopify code. The only catch is that now you have much more customization options than you had before!
